Okay, I think I need to clarify some things....
A few days ago, I sent out itinerary's to all aunts, uncles, bridal party, and grandparents. These were just to give everyone a heads up that the wedding is a 3 day event. I have been made aware that this is causing some confusion. So here's the deal:
On the day of the wedding, everyone will be invited to the actual ceremony itself at St. Mary's. That has never changed and will not change. Of course we want everyone there!
Now, this is where the confusion may begin: after the ceremony, we are having an intimate dinner for about 50 people. This includes bridal party, grandparents, parents, siblings, and aunts and uncles only. As much as we would love to have all of our wonderful cousins and even friends there, we opted for a smaller dinner. But this is why we are having a brunch the next day:
The brunch is for about 250 people and really is going to be like a "normal" reception in a lot of ways. This is where we will have our first dance and cut the cake and show a slide show of pictures and do 500 miles (a must!!) etc, etc.
Also, these were NOT formal invitations. Those will be sent out in time. In the invitations, there will be separate mini invitations for the after-ceremony dinner and the brunch on Sunday. Again, please do not get offended if you do not get an invite to the dinner afterwards. We just have to keep it as small as possible.
Remember, we are buying a house. And this means we have to cut down. The important part is Bryce and I are getting married. We love each other and we want all of you to take part in that.
Hopefully this will clear things up. And please, feel free to ask me anything. I don't want anyone to be confused about anything! It makes me anxious, lol!

You should have seen it in color.
I recently blogged about Papa and some letters and pictures I found in the "junk" room. Well, I was driving back from class tonight and happened to come across this song on the radio. I think it explains how I felt reading these letters and looking at those pictures. It's also how Papa probably feels when he goes in that room (as I have caught him do a couple times). It actually made me kind of teary eyed. (I am not sure why I am so emotional about Papa all of a sudden!) The song is called "In Color" by Jamey Johnson:

Dude. Stamps were 8 cents in 1945.
As much as I argue with Papa and as much as he irritates me with his actions (or lack thereof these days), it's nice to take a moment or two to remind myself that he was not always this way. He was actually a very cool guy and someone who would give you the shirt off his back if he had to. Well, I got a little reminder today in the form of some old letters.
I am a history buff. I love watching The History Channel and enjoy reading about the past. I was actually a history major my first year at Bowling Green, until I realized you can't do squatola with it. I especially enjoy reading and learning about World War II (specifically the Holocaust, but that era in general). Papa was in the Navy Air Force during WWII, although he was never shipped overseas. But he always talks about how he flew planes.
There is a room in the house that has sort of become the designated "junk room". We pretty much use it to store everything that does not have a place in the house, i.e. seasonal decorations, suit cases, etc. In this room, there are also pictures. Tons and tons of pictures. I have actually spent a good couple of hours just going through all of these pictures. They are all of the various generations of Manwell's. It is really cool to kind of go back in time and try to imagine what life was like way back in the 1800's.
Today, I came across something that I don't know how I missed. I saw an envelope that was addressed to Mrs. D. Manwell. I thought they were letters to my grandma but upon further investigation, they were actually letters to Papa's mom. I about squeeled with glee and did a little happy dance! I mean, how cool is that? To actually read what about how he was feeling in 1945 during the war!? Well, I think it's cool anyways. Most of the letters are about how deadful the conditions were on his base but they are pretty funny and gives me a glimpse of what his life was like then. Here are a few pictures of the letters and pic of Papa when he was about 17 or 18 by one of his planes (you'll have to ignore the flash on the pic...it's a picture of a picture):

Big updates.....
So, as I hinted a few days ago, there have been some new developments in the Roth/Maldonado wedding....so here it is:
As I'm sure you have all read, Bryce's parents are moving into a condo. Since Bryce still lives with them, that left him with a big decision to make. Stay in the house until it was sold and make payments on it or move out. Well, after mulling it over with him and talking to my parents for several hours at our kitchen table, we decided to take my parents up an offer they made several months ago...have a small wedding and take the rest of the money and put it towards a new house.
I have to admit, it was hard giving up the big wedding as it is something I have always wanted, but in the end, this seems to be the smart thing to do. It is definitely a buyer's market right now and we are going to jump on that opportunity. Besides, the important part is that Bryce and I are getting married! :)
Soooo, that being said, Bryce found some houses that he liked and showed them to me. We picked out a few that looked promising and went from there. My parents, Bryce's parents, myself, and a realtor went to Sandusky to look at some properties. After finding some houses that were just deplorable, we found one that was definitely a keeper. It's a 3 bedroom, two-story home on 5th Street. It is in foreclosure and they are asking $39,900 for it. Everyone agreed that we should jump on that ASAP and make a bid. So that is what we did last night. Bryce got to see it yesterday and he loved it. We went ahead and got all the paperwork signed and now begins the waiting game. Hopefully, we won't be in a situation where there are multiple bids.
While the house needs a new kitchen, there are really no other major problems with it. There are a few cosmetic issues that need to be addressed but they can be taken care of over time. I can not even express how excited Bryce and I are! Hopefully, we will hear something soon.
Now, where does that leave us as far as the wedding goes? Well, the date and ceremony remain the same. However, in liu of a formal reception afterwards, we are having an intimate dinner for about 40 people (bridal party and immediate family only) at some restaurant (we are trying to find an opening somewhere...Mon Ami Winery was booked, unfortunately). Then, the following Sunday, we are hosting a big brunch for everybody at Massimo di Milano's in Cleveland. This is where my sister's have had the Quinceanera's (coming of age party in the Hispanic culture) and it's a great place to have a party! This will replace the reception and will be much more cost effective (we have an in with Massimo's!). By doing all of this, the wedding will cost 1/3 of what it was going to cost before and thus, it leaves us with the rest of my parents share to put towards the house.
Phew. Okay, so that's what's been going on. Big things! Big changes! I feel so old...:) I will keep you all posted if we hear anything...hopefully, it won't take too long!

Frustration!
Gaaahhhhh! Okay, so my cell phone is the Samsung Glyde. I got it in May and haven't really had any problems with it. Well, as of the past couple weeks, the touch screen has been acting up. It doesn't do what I want it to do and it pretty much has a mind of it's own. Seriously, my phone was on my nightstand, clear on the other side of the room and I could hear the quiet vibrations it makes when you touch the screen. It was like someone was playing with the phone....except no one was there. (Heidi: Okay, so I was going to insert a feeble attempt at a Twilight joke here--something to the effect of Edward appearing in my room through the window and pressing buttons on my phone, but it sounded funnier in my head than it did on the screen, sooo yeah. But I figured you'd appreciate that, though! :))
ANYHOW, so today I get a phone call from my best friend, Kim, informing me that her boyfriend has the same phone and was having the same problems. He took it into the Verizon store and they told him that there was a software update and that a lot of people were coming in with same problem. Supposedly, this was supposed to fix the problem. So, I venture over to my local Verizon establishment and tell them my problem. They assured me right away that this was in fact the software problem and that once updated, the phone should be fine. Sweet, right?
Wrong. The phone is worse, especially the touch part and now I can't even go on the internet on the phone! Gaaaahhh! On top of that, apparently Verizon Customer Service replies only to emails and not phone calls so it looks like I will have to make another trip over to the store tomorrow, weather permitting--apparently, the roads are freezing over outside.
Soooooo, okay I vented. I feel a smidge better. :)
